Spain is one of the major EU markets and a gateway to the Spanish-speaking markets of Latin America. Distribution centres, fruit, vegetable and food cold chain, and automotive and renewables-related plants drive most steel structure demand. Parts of Spain lie in a seismically active belt and some regions have high wind loads, so design must follow CTE and the Eurocode system. Components entering the market must be produced to EN 1090-1 with CE marking.
Demand and delivery practice in Spain
Spain has a warm climate and a strong agriculture and food processing sector, so produce cold chain and distribution centres give steady steel demand, with data centres and renewables-related plants also growing. The Spanish-language market bridges to Latin America: if you also target LatAm, the Spanish content and local engineering practice carry over directly.
- DCs and cold stores commonly use long-span portal frames with high-bay racking and loading docks
- Phased expansion: reserve a bay for later extension without demolishing existing structure
- Food plants and cold stores use PU edge-sealed or rock wool panels for both insulation and fire performance
CTE, seismic and wind
Design follows the Spanish CTE (including DB-SE-Acero) and EN 1993, with loads to EN 1991. Southern and south-eastern Spain lie in seismic zones, requiring seismic parameters by site class, and coastal and some plateau areas have high wind loads; S235 / S355 steel is commonly used.
- Seismic: per CTE and site class, with ductile connections
- Wind: loads from the site wind zone, with denser roof and cladding fixing and reinforced edges and corners
- Corrosion: C2–C3 inland and C4 coastal, hot-dip galvanised or galvanised plus coating
- Fire: coatings or boards to Spanish fire resistance requirements for the building use
Delivery and logistics: Shanghai / Ningbo to Valencia, Barcelona
Detailing and fabrication take place at our Shanghai and Jiangsu facilities; knocked-down members ship from Shanghai or Ningbo to Valencia and Barcelona with marking drawings, packing lists and erection guidance.
- Detailing 7–10 days, fabrication 25–35 days, ocean about 30–38 days
- Production to EN 1090-1 EXC2 with factory production control (FPC) documents
- High loading density: fewer containers per tonne and lower unit freight cost
