Mexico is one of the fastest-growing destinations for Chinese steel exports in 2026, with year-on-year growth around 272%. Nearshoring is concentrating automotive, appliance, electronics and warehousing projects in northern and central Mexico, and seismic design in the earthquake zones plus hurricane conditions on the Gulf coast are the two design points that must be handled properly.
The structural priority in Mexico
Mexico sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire, so central and southern regions have high seismic design demands, while the Gulf and Caribbean coasts face hurricanes where wind load governs long-span roofs. Steel is light, ductile and fast to erect, which suits the quick factory buildouts that nearshoring demands.
- Single-storey plants typically use 24–36 m portal frames at 8–9 m column spacing for lines and racking
- Seismic zones use ductile frames or braced systems with a clear load path
- In hurricane zones, sheet-to-purlin fixing is densified and corner and ridge zones reinforced per pressure zones
Codes and climate
We can design to Mexican codes (including the RCDF / NTC system) or to AISC, and owners commonly require AISC or US-standard drawings. We use ASTM A992 / A36 or Q355B, with corrosion protection selected to the project location.
- Seismic: parameters per Mexican zoning or a project-specified code, with ductile connection detailing
- Wind: basic wind speed for hurricane zones, with a strengthened envelope
- Corrosion: C3–C5 systems for coastal and industrial areas; premium coatings inland
- Envelope: rock wool or PU sandwich panels selected per climate for insulation and fire performance
Delivery and logistics: Shanghai to Manzanillo or Lázaro Cárdenas
Detailing and fabrication are done at our Shanghai and Jiangsu plants. Knocked-down members ship to Manzanillo, Lázaro Cárdenas or Veracruz, with member marking drawings, packing lists and erection instructions.
- Detailing 7–10 days, fabrication 25–40 days, sea freight about 20–30 days
- FOB / CIF / DAP terms; we assist with Mexican customs and documentation
- US-standard materials and AISC drawings available to match local owner practice
