Get a Logistics Warehouse solution

Japan is one of the most demanding seismic markets in the world, and steel — light and ductile — is the mainstream form for industrial buildings. E-commerce logistics warehouses, data centres and semiconductor plants are the main sources of demand. The key to the Japanese market is compliance with the Building Standard Law and the JIS material system, plus local acceptance of seismic detailing, fire protection of steel and fabrication accuracy.

The seismic barrier in Japan

The Building Standard Law sets clear seismic and inter-storey drift requirements for steel buildings, and members and connections must follow Japanese detailing practice. Ductile steel dissipates energy through plastic deformation under strong motion, while its low weight reduces foundation and piling demand — which is why steel dominates Japanese industrial buildings.

Codes, fire protection and typhoons

Design follows the Japanese Building Standard Law and JIS, with loads combining Japanese seismic, typhoon and snow conditions. Fire-resistant buildings generally require fire protection of steel members, and corrosion protection is selected for the coastal or industrial environment. Fabrication accuracy and weld quality are central to review.

Delivery and logistics: Shanghai / Ningbo to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya

Detailing and fabrication take place at our Shanghai and Jiangsu facilities; knocked-down members ship from Shanghai or Ningbo to Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya with marking drawings, packing lists and erection guidance. Japanese clients are demanding on packaging and arrival accuracy, so we deliver with standardised packing and member marking.

Frequently asked questions

Can you issue calculations to the Japanese Building Standard Law?
Yes. We design to the Building Standard Law and JIS and issue calculations, connection details and welding documents; where review by a Japanese structural design office is required, we provide the original model and design input data to complete the review.
What fire protection is required in Japan?
Fire-resistant buildings generally require steel members to be fire protected. We select intumescent coatings or board systems for the building use and fire rating, and specify the system and thickness on the drawings.
Who handles site erection?
We provide member marking, erection sequence drawings and remote technical support; site erection is normally carried out by a qualified Japanese contractor, and we can send engineers to site to guide.
Need a steel structure solution and quotation for this market?

Send the span, use and site conditions — we reply with a JIS-compliant solution and budget price within 48 hours.
