Nigeria is Africa's most populous country and West Africa's largest economy, and one of the fastest-growing destinations for Chinese steel exports in 2026, with year-on-year growth around 200%. Building materials, food and beverage, chemicals and logistics warehousing are all breaking ground, and with high heat and humidity, coastal salt air and an often constrained grid, factory-made steel components bolted on site are a clear advantage.
The structural priority in Nigeria
Nigeria has a concentrated rainy season and high humidity, and grid supply is unreliable in places, which constrains cast-in-place concrete. Factory-made steel members bolted on site shorten the programme substantially and reduce dependence on site conditions.
- Single-storey plants typically use 24–36 m portal frames at 8–9 m column spacing for lines and racking
- Cranes of 5–20 t can be pre-provisioned with brackets and rails, added later without stopping production
- Phased expansion: build phase one, extend the same bay line later without demolition
Codes, climate and corrosion
We design to the Nigerian National Building Code system, typically producing drawings to BS or an owner-specified standard, using SS400 / Q235B and SM490 grades. Coastal and high-humidity environments default to a conservative C3–C4 corrosion class.
- Design: to the Nigerian building code, or an owner-specified BS / AISC system
- Corrosion: hot-dip galvanizing (≥85 µm) or galvanized plus seal coat for coastal C4
- Envelope: steeper roof pitch and drainage sized for local storm intensity
- Insulation: rock wool or PU sandwich panels to cut roof radiant heat in hot regions
Delivery and logistics: Shanghai to Lagos or Lekki
Detailing and fabrication are done at our Shanghai and Jiangsu plants. Knocked-down members ship to Apapa, Tin Can Island or the Lekki deep seaport in Lagos, with member marking drawings, packing lists and erection instructions.
- Detailing 7–10 days, fabrication 25–40 days, sea freight about 25–35 days
- FOB / CIF / DAP terms; we assist with Nigerian customs and documentation
- High loading density means fewer containers for the tonnage, cutting landed cost
