Russia is one of the highest unit-price markets for Chinese steel structures (around USD 3.48/kg). Industrial buildings, warehousing and logistics, agriculture (grain storage and processing) and resource projects are the main sources of demand. Russia is vast with a severe climate: winter temperatures can fall to −40 °C or below, so heavy snow loads and low-temperature impact toughness are the governing design conditions, and demand towards Central Asia and Russia has grown clearly in recent years. Entering Russia requires design and material to the SP and GOST systems.
The governing conditions: severe cold and heavy snow
Most of Russia has long, severe winters with roof snow loads significantly higher than comparable Chinese climate zones, and repeated snow accumulation and melt must be considered; steel must meet low-temperature impact toughness requirements, with grades selected for the project minimum design temperature, and welding and bolting executed for cold conditions. Steel's light weight and short programme are a clear advantage within Russia's limited construction window.
- Heavy snow: snow loads to SP 20.13330, denser purlins and roof sheeting, enhanced snow-guard and melt drainage
- Low temperature: grades with low-temperature toughness per minimum design temperature, with welding and bolting for cold conditions
- Temperature swings: account for expansion and joint movement from daily and seasonal swings, with proper expansion joints
SP / GOST codes and material
Design follows SP 16.13330 (steel structures) and SP 20.13330 (loads), with material supplied to the GOST system — commonly 09G2S, S255 and S345 grades. Russia has clear requirements on material certification and structural safety class, and export documentation must be prepared to local review practice.
- Design: SP 16.13330 member and connection checks with calculations
- Material: supplied to GOST (09G2S / S255 / S345 etc.) with mill certificates
- Welding: to local welding practice, with preheat and post-heat for low-temperature conditions
- Fire: coatings or boards to Russian fire resistance requirements for the building use
Delivery and logistics: Shanghai / Ningbo to St Petersburg
Detailing and fabrication take place at our Shanghai and Jiangsu facilities; knocked-down members ship from Shanghai or Ningbo to St Petersburg with marking drawings, packing lists and erection guidance. For severe-cold projects, packing and transport include moisture and corrosion protection.
- Detailing 10–15 days, fabrication 30–45 days, ocean about 35–45 days
- FOB / CIF / DAP terms; we assist with local customs documentation
- High loading density: fewer containers per tonne and lower unit freight cost
