Singapore is one of the highest unit-price markets for Chinese steel structures (around USD 3.53/kg) and represents genuinely high-end demand: data centres, biopharma and semiconductor plants, and premium logistics supported by one of the world's busiest transshipment ports. The climate is hot and humid year-round with heavy salt-laden corrosion, and there is virtually no seismic risk, so design is governed by wind, corrosion protection and equipment loads — such as the heavy racking and power equipment in data centres. Entering Singapore requires design and fabrication to BCA requirements and the SS EN series adopted locally.
Why unit prices are higher in Singapore
Land is scarce and labour expensive, so projects demand high precision, short programmes and high build quality — exactly what steel's high prefabrication and fast erection deliver. Data centres and pharma plants add cleanliness, equipment load and fire requirements, pushing structural systems and connections to a higher level and supporting higher unit prices.
- Data centres: high floor live loads, often with concrete composite slabs, requiring lifting and reinforcement points for equipment
- Pharma / semiconductor: high cleanliness and vibration requirements, with connections and floors tailored to process conditions
- Logistics: high-bay warehouses commonly use long-span portal frames with raised loading docks
Codes, corrosion protection and wind
Design follows the Singapore Building Code (BCA Approved Document) and the locally adopted SS EN 1993 system, with loads to SS EN 1991. Singapore has an equatorial climate with virtually no earthquakes and moderate wind, but heat, humidity and marine salt spray make corrosion protection the governing condition, usually designed to a C5 environment.
- Corrosion: C5 marine environment with hot-dip galvanising (heavy coating) or galvanised plus high-performance coating
- Wind: basic velocity from local values, with roof and cladding fixing to wind-resistance requirements
- Fire: coatings or boards to the fire rating for the building use, with data centres often requiring a higher rating
- Cladding: roof waterproofing and condensation control in a hot-humid climate, with insulation
Delivery and logistics: Shanghai / Ningbo to Singapore
Detailing and fabrication take place at our Shanghai and Jiangsu facilities; knocked-down members ship from Shanghai or Ningbo to Singapore with marking drawings, packing lists and erection guidance. Singapore is sensitive to arrival quality and programme, so we deliver with standardised packing and member marking and coordinate with the site lifting plan.
- Detailing 10–15 days, fabrication 25–40 days, ocean about 5–10 days
- Production to the SS EN 1090 system with the corresponding documentation
- High loading density: fewer containers per tonne and lower unit freight cost
