First time buying steel structures from China? A stage-by-stage guide with the pitfalls to avoid.
A typical export project passes through five stages over 3–5 months:
Stage 1: Requirements & quotation (1–2 weeks). Prepare the building use, dimensions, destination country, loads (wind, snow, seismic) and crane configuration. The more complete the information, the more accurate the quote.
Stage 2: Detailed design (2–4 weeks). Engineers issue shop drawings and structural calculations. Confirm steel grade, paint system, bolt class and which building code applies.
Stage 3: Fabrication & QC (4–8 weeks). Third-party inspection (SGS/BV) can be arranged during production. Check member numbering and packing lists before shipment to avoid site shortages.
Stage 4: Shipping & customs (2–5 weeks). Steel structures ship as knocked-down containers. Confirm the HS code (7308) and certification requirements at the destination port in advance.
Stage 5: Erection (2–6 weeks). Standard members come with full erection drawings and video guidance; most projects can be built by local crews, and Xionglan can dispatch engineers on site if required.
Writing deliverables and milestones for each stage into the contract is the most effective guarantee of a smooth international project.
