The steel is fine but the slab cracks and settles — the culprit is usually overlooked rack leg loads and forklift lanes.
The most common post-delivery complaint about steel warehouses is not the structure but the slab: cracks under racks and settlement along forklift lanes. These zones behave nothing like general storage areas.
A single high-bay rack leg can transfer 8–12 tonnes of concentrated load — far beyond uniform loading — while forklift lanes suffer repeated wheel pressure and impact. The design must specify: rack type and levels, forklift weight and lift capacity, and floor flatness class (e.g. TR34 FM2).
Steel helps here: column positions and rack layout can be coordinated at the detailing stage, keeping columns out of the main aisles.
A reminder for buyers: share your warehouse layout when requesting a quotation. If you only provide floor area, the slab design will inevitably change later.
