How much goes to steel, fabrication, shipping and erection? Understanding the breakdown helps you read and compare quotations.
Customers often start with "what's the price per square meter" — but the cost of a steel workshop is not a fixed number. It consists of five parts:
1. Steel tonnage (55%–65%): driven by span, column spacing, crane loads and wind/snow loads. Optimizing column spacing and framing can often save 8%–12% of steel.
2. Fabrication & welding (15%–20%): cutting, assembly, welding, shot blasting and painting. Low bids usually cut corners here — insufficient weld class or paint film thickness will cost far more in maintenance a few years later.
3. Envelope system (10%–15%): the grade of sandwich panels, insulation and daylighting strips determines thermal, acoustic and durability performance.
4. Shipping & erection: ocean freight is charged by volume — smarter component breakdown means higher container utilization. Erection time directly affects your production start.
5. Design & compliance: drawings compliant with local codes are the precondition for smooth customs clearance and acceptance.
So always compare quotations "like for like": same steel tonnage, same panel thickness, same weld standard. Every Xionglan quotation comes with a complete bill of materials and calculation notes — ask us for a comparison anytime.
