Let the Building Breathe: Placing Daylighting Strips and Ventilators

Technical Insights Xionglan Engineering Team

More daylight strips isn't better, and higher ventilators don't always work — here's the placement logic.

Daylighting and ventilation look like minor comforts, but poor placement has concrete costs: glare, overheating, dust accumulation.

Daylighting strips: aim for 8–12% of roof area — more means a radiation heat surge in summer. Avoid strips directly above workstations; prefer bay zones. FRP sheets must match the steel sheet's anti-UV class, otherwise they yellow and leak within three years.

Ventilators: streamlined ridge ventilators suit continuous exhaust; turbine vents are point supplements. Hot-process shops work best with wall intake plus ridge exhaust — natural convection beats running fans all day.

Remember: both systems cut purlins and sheets, so openings must be reserved at the detailing stage — never cut ad hoc on site.
